Card Holders Have More Reasons to Be Cheerful
Credit card provider MBNA has launched a new mobile phone
service allowing customers to receive texts containing their account
information.
The new Mobile Banking Text service has been designed to let card-holders have
access to account information while on the go and follows the introduction of
MBNA’s iPhone and Blackberry Apps. Using the
new text service customers can send a request to 83838 and receive account
information about their balance, transactions and bill payments.
Speaking about the new service; Ian Craig, Sales, Service and Operations
executive for Bank of America Europe Card Services, which owns the MBNA brand,
said: "Our customers’ needs and expectations are changing —
they want greater control and choice in managing their finances, and they want
to do so in a way that fits their lifestyles.
“Newer technology, including mobile phone functionality, SMS, the
Internet and voice recognition systems are transforming the way our customers
expect us to interact with them. The Mobile Banking Text service is one of a
number of exciting new improvements we will be making to our services.
“With this service, we are able to provide our customers with another way
to bank that is simple, straightforward and puts their credit card information
at their fingertips whenever they need it.”
As well as taking the step of introducing the text service, MBNA have also
worked hard to make sure the account feature is available to all 5 million UK
card-holders. In doing so the Bank of America subsidiary has ensured the system
works across the full range of credit cards, is free of cost (aside from
network charges) and works with all SMS enabled handsets.
Using the service is pretty easy as well, all a customer needs to do is
register a mobile phone number to their card account then simply text
‘Bal’, ‘Trans’ or ‘Bill’ to 83838 depending
on what information they require. To find out more about how to make the most

As well as launching the mobile banking function, MBNA has also been busy improving
its account offerings in other ways. The lender recently introduced paperless
statements for customers signing up new online accounts. All card-holders have
the option to go paperless here.
